Telegram forces app update by blocking access to content
Imagine the situation: you are watching a movie, and every ten minutes, instead of an image from the movie, in full screen for about five minutes, there is a text on a black background: “Update the system to see what happened in this episode.” (You can also turn on the siren or disturbing music).
Not good?
This is about the same as what Telegram does.
Blocks access to some messages and replaces them with a notification that you need to update the version of the application to view the message:
This message is not supported by your version of Telegram. Update the app to view - This message is not supported by your version of the app, please update the app to view.
You may get the feeling that some new function is built into the hidden message, some kind of media format that appeared in the application just the other day and my version, which has not been updated for a whole month (sarcasm), is really outdated and did not have time to capture this option.
But no...
The screenshot shows the result of a simple test. On the left is a screenshot from the channel asking me to update the app in order to see something, and on the right is a screenshot of the same message after the update, where you can see what exactly became available to me after updating the app.
Um... How would my app support text and video before the update and there was no problem to just show me this post. There is nothing functionally new in this message. Therefore, I come to the conclusion that telegram is just in such a stupid way forcing me to update the application regularly. Considering that, in general, I only recently installed it, after resetting the smartphone, it turns out that he wants me to update after each release of the application.
Yes, applications have important updates associated with global changes or with closing security holes, and then applications are urged to update, sometimes they require it as an ultimatum, but in normal applications that have left the beta testing stage, this happens once a year, several years.
Telegram, it seems, considers it normal to do this all the time - to create inconvenience from scratch.
As long as the trend for telegram in terms of the audience is upward, it is at its peak or moving towards it, of course, you can afford such tricks.
But popularity on the Internet is such a thing, today there is, tomorrow not, Rambler, Yahoo, icq, and many other mega-popular once forgotten services today will confirm my words. Why accelerate this process, it is not clear. Today at the peak, tomorrow at the peak.)
