Riddle in which you need to find the height of the table with the help of a turtle and a cat
I don’t know if it’s true or not, but where I saw this, it says that this is a task for elementary grades in a Chinese school.
A table, a turtle and a cat are drawn. The height from the top of the turtle to the top of the cat is known. At the same time, for the first time, the cat is on the table, the turtle is under the table, then vice versa and the height is different in different cases. 130 and 170 centimeters.
And based on this information, you need to calculate the height of the table.
I looked at the picture for about 10 minutes, trying to figure out how to calculate. I couldn't.
That is, I can find out the height of the table, of course, but not with the help of some hidden logic, some formula, not directly.
It is elementary with the help of an imaginary or real (if you print a picture) ruler, break the known distance on any of the pictures into centimeters and simply measure the height of the table. Visually it turns out somewhere around 140 centimeters.
By the way, it is quite possible that this is the expected solution to the riddle. Perhaps a riddle with a trick - while someone will puzzle in search of a formula for solving the equation, the other will simply take a tape measure and measure. And it is precisely this solution that the compilers of the riddle expect from the students.
At least this option is quite working, and if it was necessary to find out the height of the table, I will find out in what way - another question.
But you need to look again another time, there may be other solutions. Sometimes, when it is not possible to solve a problem, it is better to simply put the question aside and then approach its solution - in a different mood, with a different look at the picture, perhaps with new experience and knowledge. Sometimes it works and what seemed difficult last time is easily solved.
Actually, on Twitter, where I met the picture, there are a lot of comments under it, for sure there is also the correct one or the answer (c). But I didn’t look, I saved it to my bookmarks to look later, when I finally get tired of looking for another solution to the problem.
