🍓 Strawberry - a mutant that looks like pineapple and strawberry jam with vanillin - experiment

Opening of the berry, jam-boiling season. The strawberries ripened first.

And so, while picking berries 🍓, I found one very strange specimen. A berry in which small seeds have sprouted leaves. It seems that a new bush is preparing to grow on the top of the berry.

I thought it looked a bit like 🍍 pineapple.

Ask around, no one has seen this before.

Just in case, I looked on the Internet, maybe this is a common thing and this is a well-known variant of strawberry propagation, which was hidden from me for a long time ... But no, nothing like that. Only on one forum did I find a mention of such a mutation. It is said that in some varieties this happens. Although we have been growing one variety (I don’t know the name) for many years and have not seen this before.

Below is a photo of this berry and just a photo of strawberries and jam that came out of it. And a short overview video on youtube: https://youtube.com/shorts/nNpTW5P23wI?feature=share

Jam.

We decided to experiment and add vanillin to the strawberry jam.

Recipe: for 1 kg of strawberries, 900 g of sugar (it turned out very sweet), a tea cup of water (so that more syrup remains after boiling and it is liquid, not overcooked) and a good pinch of vanillin added at the beginning of cooking. Cooked immediately without standing and in one step. After boiling, they boiled for about an hour on minimal heat, sometimes removing the foam and stirring.

Bottom line: vanillin definitely goes well with strawberry jam, it does not interrupt the original flavor, but only successfully complements it. You can add.
