Tried the vegetarian seitan skewers. You can eat, but you need to marinate well
I continue to study seitan - the so-called vegetarian meat, which is made from flour. I have already made goulash, cutlets, and now, the turn has come to shish kebab...
Seitan kebab is one of those dishes that you can’t understand in any way - did you like it or not. And while you taste it, to taste it, it ends.
In general, you can eat. Of course, this cannot be compared with meat skewers. But in principle, a lot of different things are cooked on the grill, not only meat. And fish, mushrooms, and vegetables are cooked on the grill without claims to be compared with meat skewers. It is in this context that seitan skewers should be considered.
I marinated it in a sauce that I composed myself on the go from what was at hand: a couple of tablespoons of tomato paste, 100 grams of vegetable oil, one egg, two tablespoons of sour cream, black and red pepper, mustard, salt, vinegar.
In general, seitan skewers are recommended to be marinated for a long time so that it is well saturated with marinade and absorbs salt and all spices. I was itching to try it, I only marinated it for two hours.
Edible, interesting, not bad, a bit dry, not enough fat. At the end of the frying, out of habit, I hit the skewers on the grill several times to remove excess fat, it was superfluous))
I will definitely cook it again and marinate it in a normal way with a large set of spices and marinate during the night. Then I'll make my final impression.
The recipe for making the seitan itself is here: https://en.vmenu.fun/recipes/10093 From a kilogram of flour, as stated in that recipe, I got a barbecue for four skewers.
Below are some pictures of the barbecue.
P.S. - the cat liked it.
upd 06/20/2023: I cooked such a barbecue again and shot a short video at the barbecue. https://youtube.com/shorts/NhwgFlkg7s0?feature=share
