I watched Elon Musk’s interview with Lex Friedman on the topic of artificial intelligence. There the conversation turned to American bureaucracy.
Elon Musk talks about the fact that when launching rockets or producing electric cars, he has to take into account regulations from hundreds of different departments.
For example, when launching rockets into space, he must prove to the fisheries committee that his rocket launched into space, when falling into the ocean, will not hit a shark.
And a very funny case. One of the American departments responsible for animal protection demanded that Elon Musk conduct tests with a seal. The purpose of the test: to find out how the noise from rockets being launched affects the mood of the seal. To conduct the experiment, a seal was tied to a board and put on headphones, into which the sound of a launched rocket was broadcast.
They say that at first the seal was upset, he thought that his last hour had come. Then he ran away in shock and told the seals he knew about the strange things that people were doing to him; the other seals didn’t believe it.
