She is about two years old. She spent the last 100 days at the Battersea Animal Shelter in southwest London. In fact, for more than a hundred days ...
After she spent a hundred days at the shelter and no one wanted to take the cat, the shelter workers decided to arrange a symbolic birthday for Monique.
They posted an invitation on social networks about the holiday, hoping in this way to draw attention to the fate of the cat in order to finally find a home for her.
But, alas, no one came to Monique's birthday.
It's bad when no one comes to a birthday, even to a person, even to a cat ...
The idea of having a birthday party didn't work.
Perhaps someone is embarrassed that the cat is already quite adult - will she be able to get along with the new owners?
Perhaps the reason is the diagnosis of the cat.
She has feline immunodeficiency virus. Yes, that happens too. The disease usually progresses slowly and cats with this diagnosis can live long enough by feline standards. The main condition is to isolate them as much as possible from other animals, so that they do not catch some kind of disease, with which their weakened immunity cannot cope. For humans, of course, Monique's illness is not dangerous.
However, after the animal shelter posted on its pages on social networks a story about a birthday, which no one came to, many were interested in the fate of the cat.
By the way, as a "cat expert", having watched the video, I can say with confidence that the cat is smart, docile, knows how to be friends with people, not intrusive. Able to catch mice, if it matters to someone. And I would say that Monique is from that category of cats that are even capable of one day providing an invaluable service to their owners in a critical situation. For example, how our cat Vaska (who is no longer, unfortunately) helped us to cope with the snake.
At the moment, no owners have been found for Monique. However, her story went viral and this gives a chance that there will be a home for Monique soon.
When it happens on her page https://www.battersea.org.uk/cats/monique a corresponding notification should appear.
